Couples eloping in North Carolina can obtain a marriage license from any county's Register of Deeds before the ceremony. Both partners typically apply in person, though some counties allow online pre-applications. A fee, identification, and proof of age are required, along with a Social Security number or a notarized statement of ineligibility. If previously married, proof of divorce may be needed.
