L & J’s Heartfelt Celebration at The Poplars at Bearwallow Mountain

Up a winding mountain road, nestled snug among the wintering trees, The Poplars at Bearwallow Mountain emerges from the foliage like a hidden retreat — a sanctuary of love and connection amidst the natural grandeur of Western North Carolina.
As an Asheville intimate wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to the stories that unfold in places like this — secluded, serene, and filled with soul. L & J’s wedding at The Poplars was the perfect reflection of that kind of magic.
A Gentle Couple with a Close Community
L & J wanted their wedding weekend to reflect their Love story and Essence.
Having met in college, they kept close connections with friends and family from across the country — and dreamed of a celebration that brought everyone together.
The Poplars at Bearwallow Mountain provided the perfect setting for an intimate mountain wedding weekend. With cabins and accommodations on-site, their loved ones could stay nearby, share meals, and celebrate from sunrise to starlight.
Guests flew in from hundreds of miles away, and these two welcomed them all with the warmth and hospitality that defined their relationship.

A Day Filled with Meaningful Details
Like many intimate weddings, every element was intentional. From local artisan chocolates, to including their beloved pup on the invitations, to heirloom pieces woven throughout the décor — their day was a reflection of what they value most: love, legacy, and connection. As they got ready, surrounded by their closest friends and family, laughter filled the cozy mountain suites.

The Mountain-Side Ceremony
With hearts racing and smiles wide, L & J’s closest crew gathered for a mountain-side wedding ceremony that overlooked the rolling landscape of Western North Carolina. The stillness of the mountains set the stage for heartfelt vows, tearful laughter, and a ceremony that felt truly sacred.
A Celebration of Flavor and Friendship
As cocktail hour began, guests were treated to a spread that was both luxurious and locally inspired.
Red Fiddle Vittles crafted an unforgettable charcuterie experience, while Florabilities designed an artistic tablescape — transforming the dining area into a feast for both the eyes and the heart.
While guests mingled over wine and laughter, The Village Bakery fired up their mobile pizza ovens outside, filling the crisp evening air with the smell of freshly baked dough and smoky woodfire. Watching pizzas tossed and topped in real time brought a lively, cozy energy that fit the evening perfectly.
As night settled over the mountains, everyone gathered indoors for dinner, drinks, and dancing — a celebration that was intimate, joyful, and deeply personal.
Capturing the Magic
Photographing L & J’s day at The Poplars at Bearwallow Mountain reminded me why I love intimate weddings in the Blue Ridge Mountains so deeply. When couples choose connection over production, the moments unfold effortlessly — raw, genuine, and full of heart.
Each image from this day tells a story of warmth, gratitude, and the quiet beauty that comes from celebrating love surrounded by your favorite people.
